PayPal Japan visual style proposal

I was tasked to create a visual style for PayPal Japan, tapping on the mindsets and cultural nuances that makes it uniquely Japanese. Working very closely with Japanese creatives, we created a style that not only speaks Japanese but embraces the beliefs of PayPal as a brand. Here are the options for the proposal presented to the CMO of PayPal Japan.

The PayPal Global illustrations represents minimalism very well, portraying characters in simple shapes and forms. In both versions of this Simplicity approach, we adopt this illustration framework but with elements from Japanese culture.
